What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a spiritual practice and spiritual healing technique that was created in the early 20th century in Japan. The founder, Mikao Usui, was a Japanese Buddhist monk who developed Reiki after a period of meditation and fasting on Mount Kurama, a sacred mountain near Kyoto.

As a Reiki practitioner, I act as a channel for the reiki energy to flow through to you to bring your biofield into harmony and balance your chakras and meridians to promote healing.

What can Reiki help with?

Reiki can help with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Stress and anxiety: Reiki can help to settle the mind, promote relaxation, ground you, and reduce stress and anxiety.

  • Pain management: Reiki has been used to alleviate pain, such as, headaches, menstrual cramps, and chronic pain.

  • Emotional healing: Reiki can help to release blocked and stored emotions to promote emotional healing. It can also help to alleviate depression and lift your low mood.

  • Sleep disorders: Reiki can help to improve sleep quality and alleviate restlessness and insomnia.

  • Digestive issues: Reiki can help to balance the digestive system and alleviate stagnate energy that causes inflammatory responses and constipation.

  • Immune system support: Reiki can help to boost the immune system and promote overall health and well-being.

People seek out reiki treatments for a variety of reasons. Reiki is a non-invasive and gentle modality, and is suitable for people of all ages and health conditions.

How does it work?

You will be able to enjoy this treatment laying down. Following the chakra system, I will work my way down the body influencing the energy flow. There is very light to no physical touch throughout this session. My hands will hover your chakra centres, between skin surface level to a few inches off your body. It is a deeply relaxing treatment, and it is very common for your mind to drift off into deep meditation. I provide blankets and heat packs for you to feel cozy and nurtured, assisting deep soothing to the nervous system.

FAQS

What do I need to bring?

You do not need to bring anything to your appointment – just your lovely self. You will be lying down for the majority of the session so please wear something comfortable. If you have an emotional release or simply like to use an eye pillow, you may want to come without makeup or choose a waterproof mascara. Before you come in you are welcome to note down the things in life that are affecting you the most, whether that be physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. Please come with an open mind and plan ahead so that you do not need to rush off or head back to work.

When should I plan to have my session?

It is not recommended to come when you are time restricted or in a rush. I would not recommend having your session in your lunch break or before work (if you can avoid it). It is common to feel tired afterwards, and if you experience big emotions during your session, you may want space to process or journal afterwards. There is no particular “optimal” time to have a session, lean into when you feel called to the process.

How many sessions do I need?

Everybody’s journey is different. We have all experienced different lives, different levels of conflict/trauma, and also have differing emotional capacity and resilience. As this is such an individual process I will be able to give you a rough idea of the amount of sessions you will need and how often you should pace them. Most people will experience a level of change after their first appointment, but will usually require at least 4 appointments to shift long term issues, particularly if they have manifested into physical symptoms.

Will I fall asleep during the sleep?

Everybodies experience is different. Depending on the level of anxiety or mental activation you are experiencing, will depend on how deeply you can drop in. You may we aware and conscious the entire session, others will slip into a deep meditative state that can feel like falling asleep.

Can my child have Reiki?

Children over 15 are welcome to have a session by themselves if they are willing (and with their parent/guardian’s consent). For children under 15, I ask that the parent/guardian be present for the session. Depending on the child’s age and ability to lie still for an extended period of time, will depend on the length of the session. Children generally respond very quickly and do not require the same appointment length as adults. Please chat with me prior to booking for this type of session.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes, you can check our my virtual offerings HERE

What can Reiki help with?

Reiki can assist with issues on all levels – mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. The most common issues amongst my clients are – stress, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, nervous system support, negative mental activity, sleep issues, chronic pain, grief, digestive issues and immune support.

Can I have this treatment if my religious or cultural background differs from where this modality originated?

As long as you are open minded to the experience, you can benefit from Reiki. Reiki is a non-sectarian, non-religious modality. During a session we do not refer to or call in any Gods, Goddesses or Archangels. Reiki is derived from ancient Japanese Buddhist healing modalities and does not require you to have, or not have, any particular religious/cultural beliefs. With that said, as Reiki stems from Buddhism, there are some religious lineages that may not allow it (for example, Jehovah Witness, Seventh Day Aventist and some branches of Christian faith). If you have any questions regarding this, please write to me on my contact page.
